Greg Koukl’s Deep Thought

Greg Koukl of Stand to Reason has hit the nail on the head with his pithy comment on "Anti-intellectual Churches" (see link below hopefully). The trick isn’t to say that you’re going to change the church from within, but you’re going to get a group of stable thinking Christians together and as a group start to influence that church from within. Definitely something to ponder for all of us who wonder what has gone wrong in our churches and what we can do to change it. See STR’s Weblog.

However, the fine line is the decision between changing it from within, and realising that there comes a time when a Christian is biblically commanded to leave.

As a light-hearted example: your church isn’t providing Starbucks’ dark-roasted coffe for after the services. That you can change. But, what if your church persists in saying that God is a four-headed elephant from the planet Naboo and a tongue-pearcing is mandatory for salvation? See, that’s a different matter, because what your church believes now affects your salvation. That’s when it’s time to leave.

Or, in the words of Greg Koukl, your church should never be your mission field.
